Let Freedom Sing
Like almost all productions, the pandemic COVID-19 provided great challenges to many, including on Arts Express, on how to continue to provide entertainment to their audiences while stuck at home. Arts Express set out to continue their plans for the annual production of "LET FREEDOM SING," a 4th of July special performance celebrating America's birthday and rejoicing in the close-knit community Tucson has become.
Instead of hosting a special concert at the historic Fox Theatre downtown, we decided to film and record the entire performance to be edited together into a one-hour pay-per-view showing to be hosted on YouTube.
The concert consisted of several great artists and musicians around the Tucson community, including some that have toured internationally together. Not only were we fortunate enough to work with these artists, but we also had the opportunity to bring in a host for the entire event: Alex Steiniger, the host of "The Morning Blend" for KGUN9 Tucson.
Almost all vocals heard on the one-hour video were either recorded live on location, or in Subspace Recording, a local recoding studio provided by Arts Express' own technical director, Mike Dunn.
All of the instrumentalists recorded their parts from their own home, then sent their stems over the cloud to me for mixing, mastering, and export to video for our editor, Ben Wiese.
