ROMEO & JULIET

June 2019
Sound Designer, Composer
The music for this touring show at AST focused on capturing the beauty and pastel-like colors of the set and costumes. Taking inspiration from an "Italian city," the style of the music leaned toward orchestral and romantic styles.

The cast also had great musical skill, which allowed me to arrange and compose songs for them to sing during their own preshow. We also book-ended the play with performed pieces, one to tell the exposition and conflict of the two families, and the other to reconcile after losing their children from heartbreak.

Dimmed lights and slow motion sound effects aid to give actors the ability to exaggerate their movements in slow time. Mercutio (front) is slowed down to accentuate and expose his swipe at Tybalt (Will Stotts, upstage) who defends.
Romeo and Tybalt duel. Battle drums and slow motion effects help to set the timing and mood of vengeance.
